No? .... YES ...That's the way it is?

I always wonder how final the word 'No' is.
Even in saying it, the tongue touches the roof of the mouth, when the syllable is uttered.
On the other hand just remember how we say the word 'yes' the lips part, and the sybilant sound follows...
Yes... we are open. But in ' No' ....we are closing our selves...
don't you feel it that way?
Coming to ponder over this topic, in many languages, the word IS pronounced in such a manner, our tongues themselves make the blocking action, like, non, nahin, illai, etc.
Child psychologists have told, from 8 months onwards, infants can understand the meaning of the word 'no'.
and they have proved it with instances. So they suggest that mothers should say 'no' to kids if they do something that they are not supposed to do.
But what a lot of warmth The word 'yes' has! When you are talking to someone or vice versa, this word opens the speaker to you. He/she continues to open herself to you, and friendships are formed. 'Yes' is a feel good word.
They say 2 negatives make a positive. But when I say 'I did not know you did not like chocolates', I don't think it means 'I knew you liked chocolates'.Or does it really mean so? I wonder!
Of course when I say rhetorically, ' Do I not Know you like chocolates!' it means I know you like chocolates.
But when we say 'no', to someone who asks us for something, we can say It gracefully, in the manner in which we say it, or with some reason or excuse, above all in a way which does not make the person feel bad or insulted. That is human courtesy.
Which reminds me of Karna of Mahabharata who could never say no to anybody and that led to his downfall.
For those of you who do not know Karna: Karna is a character in the Indian epic Mahabharata. He is the Sun God's son, so he is powerful and has endowmentss due to which no one can defeat him. But he has a weakness. He is so generous that can never refuse anything to anyone . In the epic battle he is thrown on the side of the evil ones, and to bring about his downfall , the Gods carry out ruses that strip him of his invincible powers. So Practical living demands usto say no as and when required.
I remember in our schooldays, 'no' was a word used as an affirmation of our girlish talks: 'she is very sweet,no?' 'you are coming,no?' I am sure many of you will remember this type of talk,no?

Yes and No two simple words, but can make or change the lives for many of us every day .
